Capcom Arcade Cabinet: Sonson.

Well we're almost at the end of the Capcom arcade cabinet in case you missed it we've been taking a look at every single game in the collection one by one but alas we're almost done you know one of my favorite parts of this little trip

through time has been playing the lesser known games in the collection I mean everyone's played 1942 commando ghosts and goblins not sure everyone's played sonson this is one of the last

three games in the collection part of the 1984 pack and as such it's one of Capcom's earliest arcade games it's also one of their weirdest it's a game based on one of the four great novels of

Chinese literature it's also a game in which corn dogs are worth two hundred times more points than carrots because you know what goes better with ancient literature than buying healthy groceries

at a carnival two thousand points for french fries 74 fresh grapes it's sonson for the PlayStation 3 this is just I mean it's kind of a bizarre game sonson is a side-scrolling platformer obviously

but the side-scrolling happens automatically so the screen is constantly moving forward and you have to keep up meanwhile enemies attack from both directions front and back fortunately you can shoot fireballs

because history so son son ends up playing like a weird hybrid that feels like a platformer at times a shooter most of the other times and like I don't know maybe a little bubble bobble kind of or there's food everywhere that gives

you bonus points and movements has a similar kind of Bubble Bobble floatiness in a good way I mean the game actually plays great say for some the old-school arcade cheapness see one of the game's biggest problems is that when you

respawn after a death there's no guarantee your new monkey boy is gonna have a fair life he is after all a monkey boy and this was 1984 you respawn on the left often right where enemies are making their entrance oh and the end

there's no momentary invincibility this Booga freakin Booga of course a little what the is to be expected from any arcade game worth its quarter munching reputation and I gotta tell ya I had a lot of fun with Sun Sun it's one of the

more obscure games in this collection but it's a great addition both for its history and hybrid gameplay and it's its suspect views on diets the the cakes not a lie and sonson it's worth five thousand points.
