Pest control 101 #1

in #gardening5 years ago (edited)

We love this Crassula, not for its ediblity (it's definitely NOT EDIBLE), but for its flowers because they attract Hoverflies. They love it!

When they're in full flower, there are literally clouds of them around each plant - all ready to zoom off and eat our pest insects.

This is one of those Euphorbias that drop little branches at the drop of a hat, even a strong wind is enough to knock them off. These little bits sometimes come with roots already growing.

Because they're so hardy and easily spread, they can be a little invasive so we keep them in pots and move them around with the seasons.

Chooks and humans definitely don't eat these, though some species of Euphorbias that look generally similar have medicinal properties. That is usually due to the corrosive nature of their latex, so dont try eating them, whatever you do!

A quick edit... It's a Crassula, not a Euphorbia. Silly me!
