I guess there's good cause for tariffs. While the gift China has been giving of steel below cost seems stupid to refuse now, not all prices are paid in money. Money does you no good in a trench ducking bullets.
Sniffing about all over smells like war. Diplomats recalled, spies poisoned. US forces committed in a swath across N. Africa and the Middle East into S. Asia. It's all just news until you're telling it cuz it's not somewhere else anymore, and then it's all that matters. We might have better uses for steel than sales of luxury cars abroad soon, and that would be a poor time to start building capacity.
On a practical note, tariffs on steel will bring scrap prices up, just like BTC drags alts. 20 years ago scrap prices soared, and there was a rash of real estate on the market that tenants had ripped all the wire out of the walls to sell for scrap. Could pick up houses for under $10k cash.
Those same houses are worth over $200k now.
So, 4D chess playing Trump is prepping to make a killing by incentivizing junkies to cannibalize their homes for crack so he can pick them up for a song and gentrify the neighborhoods..
