Pitcher Plants in North Florida

in #photography9 years ago (edited)

One of the very few carnivorous plants in Florida

On a recent work trip to the Florida Panhandle I heard there were Pitcher Plants blooming in a nearby state park so in-between gigs I made a quick stop to check them out since I've never seen them before. After a short jaunt down the trail they were everywhere around a small pond and marsh area.

The brightly-colored petals of these plants along with the sweet smell of nectar secretions attract insects who fall prey when they venture too close to the center of the tube. The naturally slick surface causes them to slip down to their doom.

It's always pretty cool when you get to see Nature in action like this!

Nice pics, carnivorous plants are so intriguing... =)

wow very beautiful, i like it

I love carnivorous plants, and these are absolutely beautiful shots. Thanks for sharing!

I didn't know these existed outside of the rainforest.

Upvoted, resteemed and following.

They're most concentrated in the Florida Panhandle, the Yellow River Marsh Preserve has the highest concentration of carnivorous plants in the area.

There are a few other species but the pitcher plants are the most pleasing to the eye! Thanks for stopping by @theblindsquirl!

I had a pitcher plant once. It died though. I have never seen one in the wild here. They are interesting.

that's a difficult plant to keep for sure, you'll only see them in the Spring and early Summer in the panhandle

I got it at a flea market in Hernando co. It was a bit different then the ones you have pictured here. The pitcher part was almost like a bulb at the end and hung down, not straight up like these.

Upvoted. Great pictures :)

beautiful, I love it
