Assalamu'alaikum all Steemian friends! May you always be grateful.
About 5 months ago I had an exposure about Cultural Clothing in the area where I live, namely in Aceh, and I used it at that time. However, because this is the theme that I like the most, I am very enthusiastic about telling again about the charms of cultural clothing through this contest, with the hope that it can provide benefits and information for other steemians and hopefully we can all find out about cultural clothing in various countries.

What is your specific cultural attire and how frequently do you wear it?

The name of Aceh's traditional clothing is Ulee Balang, maybe you already know it from a number of steemians who have participated in this contest, but that's how we usually call it. Aceh has a variety of cultures that influence customs including how to dress. Acehnese traditional clothing is a blend of Malay culture and Islamic culture, we can see this from the way they dress.

Aceh traditional clothes are also like other traditional clothes which have different philosophies, meanings and meanings from each accessory used. And the traditional clothes of my area of North Aceh have been used by royal lineages, but over time, these clothes can be worn by anyone and until now, these clothes are only worn when they are kings and queens (wedding receptions).

Ulee Balang's clothes are then shaped and divided into two parts;

Linto Baroe

This is the name for the groom, and the accessories used are also very diverse;

My husband

  • Meukeusah clothes
  • Sileuweu Pants
  • Sarong
  • Meukeutop
  • Rencong

Dara Baroe

This is the name associated with the bride, and is a far cry from the linto baroe accessories which consist of;

  • Crown (Patam Dhoe)
  • Shirt brackets
  • Trousers
  • Sarong
  • Konde
  • Jewelry (hands, chest (simplah), safety pins, rings)
  • Hand Decoration (henna)

In the past all these materials were woven using gold threads and jewelry also came from pure gold, diamonds and diamonds. However, now this is just an ordinary accessory but still beautiful and looks luxurious when the bride wears it.

List and describe the activities for which you use this cultural attire.

This Ulee Balang cultural dress is only used when holding weddings, and is almost never used in public places, except when commemorating holidays and usually only used by certain people.

At present, we can still see traditional Acehnese clothing in other places, such as at graduation ceremonies, inauguration of positions, or at national events (saman dance and talent events). I can say that in fact there is no limit for someone to wear this traditional dress even in a simpler dress.

These traditional clothes, if separated one by one, will have a high value, usually people will order them at organized weddings or goods rental centers. In addition to the high price, Ulee balang clothes are also only worn during certain events such as weddings and also important events such as graduation ceremonies for the committee, and also Carnivals.

Do you think your cultural attire is unique and how much does it cost in your country's currency?

Of course it is unique, one might even say very unique because it requires various processes to be able to produce this cultural clothing into something of value.

For a dress it takes approximately 2 weeks. If you add the sequin decoration on the bridal pants, it will take almost 1 month. I ordered this dress at the July Wedding which took place at Krueng Gukueh, Tamboh Baroh. Plus a scabbard with beads underneath. All of this is not easy and cheap, for a pair of clothes I rent around 500 thousand. Wow, fantastic price, but worth the quality. Imagine if the clothes were bought, then at what price?

It doesn't stop there, the flower crown decoration will also be priced at 750 thousand rupiahs, now the price has reached 2 million rupiahs. These are not fake flowers, but real flowers consisting of 2 jasmine flowers embroidered into dahlia flowers, 5 rose stalks orange, and 4 stalks of white roses, 8 strings of jasmine embroidered lengthwise and associated with the suffix jeumpa flower (a characteristic of Acehnese flowers). This floral scent gives a happy and comfortable atmosphere. I ordered directly from the factory which is located in Medan, North Sumatra.

For a pair of clothes that I used when I had a wedding, I used to rent it for around 500 thousand. And if we buy it now the price can reach 2 million rupiah or the equivalent of 600 Steem, not to mention adding a number of accessories that can spend around 500 to 1000 Steem more. Of course all that is not comparable to the happiness we get when wearing these clothes.

I am sure, with the development of the times, many other modern Acehnese clothing models will appear, and are more attractive and beautiful to anyone who wears and looks at them.
