Greetings friends, today I will be doing my English course homework. I am quite excited because every time we do things in a good way we get good results.

Explain the subject-verb agreement in your words.

Subject-verb agreement can be based on grammatical form (number, person, and gender) and meaning. As in the Spanish language, we must know how to master the verb tenses in English to be able to orient ourselves and formulate sentences in questions or answers with the appropriate verb tense according to the action the subject is performing.

A sentence element is singular if it refers to a single person or object; if, on the other hand, it refers to more than one person or object, it is said to be plural.

Look up and explore the 7 rules you have learned and explain in your own words how you understand them.

  • Rule 1: According to number

An elementary condition of modifiers with respect to their nouns is that they must agree in gender and number, in the grammatical phenomenon called "agreement".

Example

I sold the car and the car because I needed the money.

  • Rule 2: According to gender

As you know, the verb has no gender (some of the pronouns that accompany the verb do, but not the verb forms). That is why gender agreement is associated with the article, the noun and the adjective (also with pronouns, demonstratives, some possessives and quantifiers, which we are going to study in the next units).
Example: The doctor came early

  • Rule 3: According to the person

The person is the pronoun that can be assigned to each conjugated verb.
Generally speaking, any sentence can serve as an example to study this.

Example: He did well, you and I will do well too.

  • Rule 4: If there are different persons
If nouns refer to several subjects, each and every subject must have its own determiner to go with it.
Example: The cow and the pig are his favorite animals.

  • Rule 5: Adjective to several nouns of different gender.
If the adjective qualifies two or more coordinated nouns and goes after them, the adjective must be in the plural and in the masculine, if the nouns are of different gender:
Example: I ate fresh strawberries while ironing my shirt.

  • Rule 6: Adjectives preceded by several nouns
When an adjective qualifies several coordinated nouns and is placed before them, it normally agrees only with the closest one, both in gender and number.

Example: He was wearing a tie and a red shirt.

  • Rule 7: Adjectives placed after several nouns of different genders joined by a conjunction.
If there are two or more synonymous nouns joined by a disjunctive conjunction, the adjective must be in the singular.
Example: She was the highest paid teacher or principal of the year.

Provide 5 examples with each of the 7 rules you have learned. Note that the examples I used are excluded.

  • Rule 1:
  • Her beautiful gaze and smile won me over.
  • I was amazed by the starry sky.
  • The lake and the mountains are magical.
  • The black cats scare me.
  • The actor and singer is very nervous.
  • Rule 2:
  • I baked a cake for my birthday.
  • Argentina is a country in South America.
  • I'm starting college this year.
  • My boyfriend proposed to me last night.
  • Let's have lunch at this restaurant tomorrow.
  • Rule 3:
  • You gave me this book.
  • This time, you should go.
  • She's the new babysitter.
  • He mustn't find out about this.
  • We had nothing to do with this project.
  • Rule 4:
  • There is one dish per person.
  • The preparation takes two hundred grams of sugar.
  • There were four bottles left over.
  • Going to Paris was my second choice.
  • He was my first boss.
  • Rule 5:
  • Yesterday's dance and ballet.
  • The clock, the house and the yellow bus.
  • I like that song and the video is long.
  • Yesterday I cooked and the food was good.
  • Let me know when your friends and your dad's car arrive.
  • Rule 6:
  • The coffee and tea are strong.
  • I charge the phone and the computer slowly.
  • The shirt and hat are blue
  • It's small the fish and the bottle
  • It's fast the car and the motorcycle
  • Rule 7:
  • Eyebrows and hair are greasy
  • The brush and comb are gigantic
  • The mirror and the wall are flat
  • Cardboard and paper are sharp
