What to know

Do you know that plant can be cultivated by seeds and through the use of plant materials like stem cuttings,leaves, root, etc to grow a new plant.
The most used method of planting is the use of the seeds. But how will seeds form without the fruit and the fruit without the flower, except for parthecarpous fruit which form without fertilization.
Speaking of flowers, makes me remember pollinators especially bees. Bees are social insects which live as a colony, performing different duties such as the drone bees, workers bees, king bees and the queen bee.

Why most plants depend on bees

Bees are primarily pollinators which plants are dependent on for fertilization especially plants that bear two kinds of flower (make and female flower) independently on its stock. Such plants depend on external means to move the pollens from the male flower to the female flower otherwise there will be no fertilization on the female flower.

Bees economic value to the society

Without the pollination of flowers, most fruits will not form resulting to reduction in yield which to a highly populated country is catastrophic, thus leading to food scarcity.
Ministry of Agriculture has made it important that reckless killing of bees is prohibited, apiculture or bee rearing be taken seriously so as to ensure continuous availability of bees not just for pollination but for other product farmers gaining from them like honey, beeswax, etc.

• They are good pollinator of plants especially fruit trees.
• They are essential to ornamental plants due to the flowers they produce which also provide nectar to bees.
