A Minor Miner Nightmare

Well my mining rig was offline most of the day. I woke up this morning to an email telling me my miner was offline. I don't have a monitor down near it so I had to steal a TV and lug it down to help me trouble shoot. After getting it all plugged in I encountered a login screen. Seems like an easy thing to navigate right? Well it is if you have a keyboard. but, when you don't have one they get a bit tricky. Apparently I put my normal keyboard into storage and there was no spare anywhere in the house, since we just use our laptops for everything.

So I wasn't able to get it running again but I knew that I could steal a keyboard from work and fix the rig when I got home. Wrong. Turns out my whole OS was buggered! The login screen did nothing, I'd punch in my password and the screen would flicker briefly then return me right back where I started.

That led me to start the process to actually fixing things. First I wiped my USB and reinstalled the OS only to encounter the same issue. I ended up having to download a new OS and finally got everything back up and running. Was a bit time consuming and I lost about 12 hours of mining but everything is upgraded and running smoothly. I will probably try and boost my OC settings a bit but otherwise we are back at full production. Was a busy night but I'm glad I got everything sorted out.

I want to learn how to mine too. Hehe.

I learned how to get everything running from reading on forums. If you've built a computer before you definitely have all the skills to start mining!

Are you running Windows? I just remote in on my rigs, I travel for work so I'm away from them for a week at a time. With the remote in they don't need them hooked to a monitor or keyboard, I use my phone or tablet to remote in. I just check my mining pool often to make sure everything is running, sucks when you loose mining time like that, all miners have been there. Before I started using the remote in I lost almost a week of mining I was away and thought my rigs were home making me Crypto but the PC crashed and was down. I use Chrome remote desktop it's really easy to setup. Hopes this helps

I am running Linux. Normally I can remote in and do everything I need but since there while OS was shot that kind of changed things for me.

What a nightmare, i am glad that you were able to fix the problem within a day. I remember having such similar problem , I almost run mad, Infact it took me more than a day trying to fix the problem.

The lesson I'm taking away from this is always have a spare OS ready to go. I have to USB sticks so I should have an OS on each of them.
