Studying Rembrandt - work in progress
After my sketch of Rembrandt, I'm now studying his portrait closer and attempting a rough copy to get the feel for his work. I have a high resolution image of his portrait that I am working from. You can see every little mark from each hair of the brush. But the point is not to copy one to one. Rembrandt never worked to exacting detail.
What he was master of, was loose brush strokes that tricked your eyes into seeing the detail. He understood exceptionally well, that brains are exceptionally good at that. In a way, working on this is like studying the tricks of a stage magician.
So I'd better apply some more paint to canvas in my attempt to trick or untrick my mind with his works.

Your Rembrandt is going to be a wonderful one. But this painter was incredible. He was so prolific as a painter. Last year in my town, our history museum hosted an exhibition mostly about a series of his etchings and self-portraits drawings. Fabulous!
Thank you Monica! Some of his self-portrait drawings are hilarious. He must have been a real character.
Go ahead always nice to see something new :)
Final painting will be posted tomorrow. =)
