My thoughts on investing in EOS RAM

RAM is used to store account information in the EOS system, such as public keys, account balances, and so on. EOSIO allows the market to determine the allocation of RAM. The less RAM that is circulating in the market, the more expensive the remaining RAM will be.

Many people who invest in RAM say that at current prices, you need 1% of RAM to spend less than the 1% of EOS. Every application in the EOS ecosystem requires RAM. So you can lick RAM.

But RAM and general blockchain assets are very different. The general blockchain assets are artificially scarce (such as a constant amount of bitcoin), but the total amount of RAM can be overnight because of community requirements or Technological advances have increased. That is, the scarcity of RAM is very uncertain. Even I think that if the RAM is too expensive, its scarcity will decline deterministically and rapidly.

Furthermore, unlike the social consensus about maintaining artificial scarcity of traditional cryptocurrencies, the RAM supply may be increased overnight based upon community demand and technological advances. The supply of RAM is managed by voters for the benefit of developers and users which need cheap RAM to build applications.

RAM is not designed to be artificially scarce the entire market is working on ways to increase both RAM and TPS over time.

Regardless of how BM decides how to control the growth rate of RAM, the EOS ecosystem will definitely not make the price of RAM too high, because it is not conducive to new applications. At current prices, according to BM estimates, a typical smart contract (approximately 10MB of RAM) already means spending about $40,000 to buy RAM. In other words, the current investment in RAM, the upside is bound to be very limited. Investment is to consider the proportion of expected earnings / risks, this upside space to determine limited high-risk investment, I am not ready to participate for the time being. Even if speculation, I only choose the varieties that can be held for a long time.
