Whiteywood, scientifically known as melicytus ramiflorus, is a small tree from the violaceae family that is endemic to New Zealand.

It is also called māhoe, and is a dioecious plant with dark green, alternately appearing leaves, with finely toothed edges, and is about 5–15 cm long and 3-5 cm wide.

The small yellowish flowers that grow directly from the bare twigs, are between 3 and 4 mm in diameter, and the aroma is strong and pleasant.

The berries are eaten by a number of native birds, as well as geckos to supplement their main diet of insects.
