Lemon grass, whose scientific name is cymbopogon citratus, is a tropical plant native to coastal Southeast Asia and has been introduced into many tropical regions.

Also known as West Indian lemon grass, in its native region it is known as sereh, serai, or serai dapur in Indonesia and Malaysia. In the Philippines, it is tanglad, salai, or balioko.

The leaves are often found in herbal supplements and teas and have been used in traditional medicine.

The dried leaves can also be brewed into a tea alone or as a flavor for other teas, and taste similar to lemon juice, but with mild sweetness and less acidic .
