Karaka (Corynocarpus Laevigatus)
Karaka, scientific name corynocarpus laevigatus, is a tall evergreen tree of the Corynocarpaceae family endemic to New Zealand.
Also called New Zealand Laurel, it is a leafy canopy tree with upright and spreading branches.
The leaves are thick and leathery, dark green above and light colored below, 5 to 20 cm long and 3 to 7 cm wide.
The name karaka comes from the Maori word for orange, the color of the fruit.
