The fetterbush, whose botanical name is eubotrys racemosa, is a shrubby flowering plant of the health family that grows up to 4 meters tall.

Also called swamp doghobble, and swamp sweetbells, it is native to the eastern United States and is found along the coastal plain from Massachusetts to Florida and Texas.

The leaves are smooth and thin, with long oval to broad blades and serrated edges. They are 3 to 8 cm long, and the large and small leaves are produced together on the same branch.
