Watch DTube is already here and working. Free speech, no-censorship, rewards and more... created by Adrien M. video on DTube
DTube is build on the Steem Blockchain and the IPFS (a protocol that is similar to peer to peer tech as Torrent). When you upload a video to DTube no one have the power to censor it and you will get rewarded for upvotes (depending on the upvoters Steem Power) just like on Steemit.
I foresee that DTube will boom in a short period of time, since everyone experiencing censorship or demonitization on youtube will benefit from uploading to DTube.
Also the Steem price could go up a lot because of this new application on the Steem blockchain.
Nice post @lasseehlers sir, now we can able to upload our videos in steemit with the use of D-tube I am really excited to join this new Video Community of steemit.
Yes, I agree it is exciting times, now we finally can get the truth out about many thing in the world and share information freely via video.
It is a great concept, but so far it is nowhere near as user-friendly as YouTube. It needs to be simple, so simple-minded people like me can use it with ease!
It has just been a couple of days since the platform came live. Give it a couple of months, it will definitely improve. For a site that was just suppose to be a POC, I think Dtube is great. It is already in a usable state. I uploaded a video https://dtube.video/v/gokulnk/ehfa2paz and it was straight forward.
The only challenge that I see is that the rewards will be only for 7 days. Whereas in Youtube you can have recurring returns on the old videos as well. I am not sure how Dtube can address that issue :)
@heimindanger any thoughts on this?
And also.... why do the videos not play? Do I need to be a member or something???
For me it works in the Chrome browser, but not in the Chrominium, so try to use another browser if the video is not playing.
You're right, doesn't work in Chromium. I recommend encoding all videos to H264 for maximum compatibility. Here is the full compatibility table: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML5_video#Browser_support
@heimindanger thanks for your comment, are you the creator of DTube? I have been uploading two different formats, doesn't seem to work, H264 is not an option for the software I use, are there other formats compatible or do you recommend any free software for making the videos for DTube?
Chrome, internet explorer and firefox all don't work for me... Seems to really depend on the video as well, just a few of them do work.
I am using the Chrome browser, but still it doesn't work!
I like the idea of free speech, but like so much stuff in this new blockchain world it seems too complicated for my old old brain. I wish you guys would learn to make these things more user friendly for us old dudes
DTube is very simple to use, maybe the explanation of the technology behind gets complicated for many people, but it is just like using YouTube (there are a few bugs still, but easy to use like YouTube).
So most people that like free speech and know about the censorship the big powers are using, can already head over to DTube.
I am not finding it simple to use. I cannot even watch the videos. I press play and NOTHING happens. Frustrating!
That's a bug. Too high load or something.
I still have problems playing most videos on dtube, this one being no different =/
Yeah, me too. I haven't been able to play any yet.
Not much point in having "freedom of speech" if you cannot actually hear the speech!
haha :P
