The winning bet
I’m sure I’m not the only one around here who, from time to time, starts questioning what exactly it is we’re doing here? What if we’re all deluded and it’s a losing bet? Especially people like me who aren’t that technical and it’s a matter of believing rather than understanding. Then something quite insignificant happens and you realize why is it that so many people say the blockchain is a solution to many of our problems..
Now, the very insignificant thing - I paid my phone bill. And it took me (only) three days to do so…
I had a bunch of bills to pay online and when I got to the last one I realized I was one lousy dollar short of the amount needed… Now, one dollar isn’t worth the trouble of getting dressed and go to the bank to stuff some money in the ATM to top up the account. Being very smart I remembered I had some $50 in my paypal account which I never use. Wow, problem solved! I’ll just transfer the money to the other account. For some reason I thought it would be instantaneously, but no, a message popped up on the screen saying I’ll get the money in 24-48 hours. In the end, it took three whole days to transfer a miserable $50!

The benefits of using blockchain technology are obvious even to an ignorant person like me and I guess it’s one solid selling point to the other even more technology-challenged out there. Any regular Joe can see why using this new technology would be better for him.
Just as any regular social-media user might understand why moving to a monetized platform is better. There’s been a lot of talk on the platform lately about content producers and consumers and I guess many of the millions of users we hope to attract don’t have it in them to be content producers, yet. Those who have already spent years liking and sharing memes and random very-smart quotes are not ready to come up with original ideas, but they might at some point learn. In the meantime, even earning a few cents in curation is still more than getting nothing at all for your like. Maybe some will be disappointed they don’t make as much money as others, but some will see it as a challenge.
The same goes for gaming, like the silly DrugWars. I think I’ve mentioned before I’ve been playing Candy Crush for a long time, but since I have Drugwars I’m less inclined to waste valuable time on a game that doesn’t give me anything when I could use that time to steal some drugs and make a few cents, which, you all know, will one day be worth a whole lot more.
There’s so much potential in what we’re doing here it’s hard not to see it’s a winning bet!
It’s that simple!
Am not much of q gambler, but I disagree slightly that we're primed for the victory on this platform.
I think we focus way too much on potential and what could be to see that it is taking too long to happen, and may never happen.
Either way, it's steem or burst for me
Blasphemer!!! You might, of course, be right, but I still feel it's my duty to report you to the Holy Inquistion of the Blockchain. I don't know what punishments they dish out these days - maybe they won't allow you to buy a Lambo like the rest of us... Just imagine the shame of having to drive around in a stupid Rolls Royce while everybody else has a Lambo...
Loool...It'll be tough but I think I might just survive
hahaaa keep stealing those drugs! I am also clawing my way up penny by penny and it just keeps feeling better and better :)
I'm just like you here, I'm not technical about this, but the advantages are easily visible. After using cryptocurrencies you do not want to go back to the old money.
Well, DrugWars payments in Steem are gone... I guess the game has finally dried up.
Meanwhile, Steem seems to be like a politicians game. So many promises and none delivered. The whales keep fighting, there are lots and lots of groups which self-proclaim themselves as the Steem Police and are going around annoying everyone with their "rules and regulations."
Anyone who doesn't conform to their laws, it's attacked and his/her blog destroyed.
If this is how the whales think this platform will succeed, they're badly mistaken. They're all shooting each others feet and in the end, their investment (and ours) will go down the drain.
I hope the whales grow up and realise all the fighting and self-policing is only scaring people away.
