Enjoy the silence!
People in a big city don't walk, they rush around. They need to be places – the job, school, shops, somewhere. You don't go out just for the sake of it.
Today was a leisure day, as people here celebrate Orthodox Easter. I love how the streets feel on a public holiday. A big city (like over 2 million people) is rarely so quiet.
Although it's a brilliant day outside, going to the park is out of the question – because the people trained to make the most out of their time are out there pretending to have fun! They need to be able to say they made the most of their free day. 'Oh, we've been to the park.' From personal experience, on such a day parks are swarming with legions of people hell bent on having fun. Parents with big or small children, prams, bikes, roller blades, skateboards, dogs, grandmas with walking sticks. They're all out there at this hour – fighting over a free bench to sit on, a patch of grass to lie down and eat some popcorn. And grab a beer or several beers – that's a must, although by tradition, our people already have insane amounts of food and drinks over Easter. Everybody's sweaty and noisy – regimented fun for all!
Since the sun outside was just too tempting we went for a quiet walk in the neighborhood heading for the old part with quiet streets, small houses and an almost abandoned little park, where there's nothing to do but walk around. And enjoy the company of each other. No popcorn, no beer.
This tree seems almost dead, just one shooting branch still carries flowers
As it turned out, my little one found plenty to do on this definitely not spectacular walk to be happy. Kids have this ability of finding joy in the simplest of things. Unfortunately, they grow up.
Tomorrow is back to work day. Everybody's back at their little hamster wheels.
Thanks for sharing your story, I am interested to read it. The scenery also looks beautiful and very quiet. I love solitude, enjoying the countryside, because it can relieve stress.
