INTRODUCTION

Greetings everyone in steemit cryptoacademy,I feel so happy to complete this task 8 today. Having been in the steemit blockchain for a while,I've grown to understand few things about the Decentralized Applications and I will like to appreciate the professor @wahyunahrul for taking out his time to explain this topic in such a way that even a newbie can read, study and understand it. So, in order to complete this task, I will like to answer question number one.

A. WHAT ARE DAPPS?

DApps means decentralized applications. It is a computer application that is totally decentralized. Being decentralized in nature simply means that this apps are free from the control of any central body or goverment policies but rather they work in a peer-to-peer network form, has an open source and compensate it's users with incentives.

They ensure smooth, safe and secure transactions through peer-to-peer network. All users play an active role in the operations of the applications and there are no restrictions from central authority to the users.

To explain my definition with an illustration, take for instance am a developer and I decide to develop an app that is just like Facebook after which I included it in a particular blockchain and users starts making use of it, for the fact that the app is included in a blockchain which made it a decentralized application, any data, information or transaction that the user carry out will be stored in the blockchain and not even myself that develop the app can delete such data.

B. EXPLAIN THE WORKING SYSTEM OF DAPPS?

Firstly,Dapps are computer applications so they works or operates on blockchain network or technology which means that it's operation can only be done when connected to the internet. They use open-source system and works effectively without the need of any third parties but rathery they uses smart contracts which automatically records transactions that are done on the blockchain.

Also, Dapps operate on a peer-to-peer system which means there are no third parties involved or required to confirm transactions and it's transaction fees are paid with the token of the particular blockchain where the DApp is operating on,this is the working system of Dapps.

C. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DAPPS AND OTHER APPLICATIONS?

The difference which exist between Dapps and other apps (centralized) includes the following;

DAPPS	OTHERS
Dapps are built on blockchain	They are not built on any blockchain.
Being built on a blockchain, they also operates on blockchain	They don't operate on any blockchain.
The charges for development and maintenance are very low	The charges used maintenance and development are very costly.
Rewards it's users with a token	There is no reward for it's users.
Dapps uses tokens	They don't have any form of token.
There is nothing like central authorities and restrictions	Here there are central authorities and restrictions.
Transactions are done by smart contracts which keeps third parties away from the system.	There are no smart contracts,hence third parties are involve.
Since there is no third parties,it ensures a high level of security.	The security level here are very low because of the presence of the third parties.
Dapps performs similar functions	It's functions and purpose differs.

D. EXPLAINED THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF DAPPS? .

Although the advantages of Dapps are too much but it still has some disadvantages and below are some advantages and disadvantages of dApps;

ADVANTAGES

• DAPPS ensures that the user's operation are autonomy due to their decentralised nature as compared to other centralised apps where there are restrictions.

• Since there is no single or individual authority controlling Dapps,it is very difficult for any individual or government to place a restriction on accessing Dapps thereby making it always available to users.

• Since Dapps operates with smart contracts,data stores on the blockchain cannot be manipulated or stolen by any one.

• Dapps have the ability to be connected to each other since they have same or similar functions.

• Dapps doesn't rely on a single point of failure like that of a hosting server and this ensure no downtime or restrictions since they exist on a P2P network of computers

• There is a high level of security on the side of dApps due to the blockchains systems they associate themselves with.

DISADVANTAGES

• Due to it's open-source and smart contract nature, it makes them more vulnerable and prone to hackers especially the weaker ones (dApps).

• DApps are not that easy to access and operate on due to the complex nature of the blockchain and Ecosystem.

• Since it is a computer applications and requires internet to access, users needs to have basic knowledge of computer and internet before they can access and use it.

• There are risk of loosing money and other asset due to the fact that there are no central authority to help on wrong transactions therefore if someone makes a wrong transaction it is irreversible which leads to huge lose, stress and frustrations.

• It is very difficult to complete a verification process on Dapps since there is no central body to assist.

• Most of the dApps are not user-friendly which most at times leads to frustrations especially on the part of new users.

• Adapting to the Dapps system is very stressful especially to the new users because it requires constant upgrading and updating on the system in order to fit.

E. HOW CAN DAPPS DEVELOPERS PROMOTE THEIR APPS?

There are many ways to promote different projects,but when it comes to Dapps there are also ways in which the Dapps developers can promote their apps some of them are;

• Dapps developers can promote their apps through placing or running advertisement in different website and social media platforms just like Instagram, telegram,discord,Facebook and lots more.

• The use of jingles can as well assist in promoting a newly developed DApp.

• The Dapps developers can as well try using the means of giving airdrop of the tokens of such Dapps to promote their app because the more people that has the token of a DApp the more people get to know about such DApp.

• It can also be promoted by submitting such newly developed dapp to DApp directories or promoters like dappclap, dappradar, dappbang, dapp100 etc so that they can assist them and by promoting and publishing thier work.

F. WHAT SHOULD WE PAY ATTENTION TO WHEN USING DAPPS?

While using Dapps there are some important things we should pay attention to and they include;

It is of a very high important that users should pay attention and make proper research on any high risk Dapps because most of them are not totally decentralized and are scamming app.

Most of them are ponzi-scheme but yet they pose as Dapps with too many fakes promises of a brighter future and the moment you invest in them,they will fold causing a user to lose their investment. Some of such high risk Dapps are, etherchain, Hex, forsage etc. They are what is called wolves in sheep clothing and only thorough and proper research can prevent users from getting involve with such Dapps.

G. HOW DO WE FIND THE INFORMATION OF A DAPP THAT WE WANT TO KNOW? PROVIDE THE STEPS (SCREENSHOT REQUIRED).

In order to find any information about any DApp that you wish to know, the following steps are expected to be followed;

First thing to do is to login to the official website of DApps which is www.dappradar.com and when the page opens you will see the overview of the page as shown in the screenshot below.

This is the overview of the page,am accessing it through my phone which is why it's not showing everything,but if accessed by laptop,you will see all features like games, DeFi, gambling, exchanges, other, social, collectibles, market place and high risk. All these and lots more are features that DApps posses.

Now when the page opens,it will show the top rank DApps accordingly as seen in the screenshot below;

These are the screenshots of the top ranked DApps and steemit happens to be the 47th.

In order to get details of any DApps let's say steemit for instance and looking at the main view the DApp is not showing,you have to click on the three small colons by the top right hand of the page and click on the search button and type the name of the DApp as shown in the screenshot below;

Here, I searched for steemit and it showed in the screenshot.

Once you type the name a d the DApp appears,click on the DApp and every information you need about it will reflect as seen in the screenshot below;

These are the details of the dapps I searched for,so following this steps accordingly,one can easily get the information of any DApp the person is searching for.

CONCLUSION

It is important to know that DApps are totally decentralized meaning that they are not under the control of any central body or goverment authority but rather it has a back end codes that operates on the network in a peer-peer Decentralized network. Also have it at the back of your mind that Although DApps can't steal user's data just like steemit blockchain because it operates in an open system but don't forget that blockchain can still be hacked and user can lose his data so no matter the Dapps you operate on,do your best to be careful enough.
