Hallerbos - blue forest in Belgium
Hallerbos is a picturesque place. It is located in the Belgian municipality of Halle on the border between Flanders and Wallonia, 30 minutes drive south of Brussels. The forest is known for its extraordinary beauty that envelops it in the spring. Every year, at the end of April and the beginning of May, several hectares of forest cover a magnificent thick carpet of millions of bells (wild hyacinths), creating whimsical patterns of all shades of blue. The ultramarine blanket extends deep into the forest, as far as the eye can see, circling around trees, spreading valleys and decorating the banks of streams. He enjoys great popularity among both Belgians and foreign connoisseurs of beauty.
In the spring, when the leaves of the beeches begin to revive, Hallerbos becomes especially picturesque and mystical. The first 7-10 days, gentle leaves have a light green hue, very beautifully combined with flowering bells. Through the canopy of young leaves, sunlight still flows freely and reaches the flowers, creating a bright blue-violet color.
The special charm of the Blue Forest takes place at dawn - at this time the country is enveloped by the dawn, and a dense fog further emphasizes its mysterious and surreal atmosphere. For completeness of sensations, a wonderful natural sight is best visited in the early morning or evening, when the aroma of the bells is the strongest. Collect flowers in the forest is prohibited.
The presence of so many colors suggests that this place has a fairly ancient history. A carpet of bluebells has grown here for several centuries, while trees growing in the forest have nothing to do with this figure. Earlier, Hallerbos was part of Europe's largest beech forest, stretching along southern Brussels. During the First World War, it was destroyed, although some ancient oak and beech trees survived the devastation and still occur in the forest. After the end of the war, a program was implemented for the greening of local territories, the results of which can now be seen in Hallerbos.
You can get to the amazing Belgian landmark by bus from the Brussels railway station, after reaching the nearest settlement to the forest - Dvorpa. Between the center of this village and the forest of Hallerbos lies a distance of about three kilometers.
