You Had Me At Malibu – Again

Sure you’ve sat in traffic for one and a half hours to drive thirteen miles; circled the block seven times for a parking space and then gave up tickets to an exceptional premiere in Hollywood only because you just couldn’t bring yourself to going back over the hill.

But on some days, Los Angeles/Southern California can make it all back up to you in one or two hours.
I’m sure you’ll get ticked off again by the time you hit the on ramp to get back onto the 101 but let’s not look that far into the future, now shall we, and work with me on this one?

When I used to imagine what living in California would be like before I made the big move westward, I had this vision of sitting on the beach eating seafood and having the weather be just right… Not too hot and humid, but just warm with a cool ocean breeze.

That place is Paradise Cove in Malibu.

Paradise Cove is located on the north end of Malibu on the PCH. The entrance is lined by a mobile home park community by the same name. It’s more of a beach bum community similar to the south shore of Long Island bungalows during the 1960’s or Gulfport, Florida nowadays.

Anyway, back to Paradise Cove, the restaurant. First off, it is in no way fancy, but for some reason, I always feel fancy when I’m there. The food is fresh. They have everything, you’d expect for a beachside meal, and it’s not too overpriced. We always get a cold seafood platter, and a few sides of fries, etc. to round it out.

It’s the mix of the views of the pacific, cliffside landscape, and a rustic nearby pier, you’ll appreciate along with the food that make it a wonderfully relaxing time.

You’ll surely want to chew your food slowly and sip those cold beers ever so carefully to prolong the impending end of the experience.

If you do need to stick around a bit before heading back to the city, you can relax on any of the few dozen Adirondack chairs, they have facing the ocean.

Be careful. It’s addictive.

And just because they have beachside, outdoor bed cabanas for rent doesn’t mean you can spend the night on the beach, but wouldn’t that be a fun party?
