The history of weaving is connected with the history-tradition and culture of Bangladesh. The history of weaving and weaving sarees is ancient. It is also the largest cottage industry or folk industry in Bangladesh. Weaving industry of Tangail district is the largest industry.
Currently, the textile industry has undergone a revolutionary change in yarn, knitting and fabric. Tangail's soft silk and cotton sarees are now grabbing everyone's attention because of their weave and design.
Its special feature is the border or edge craft. Besides weaving sarees, the weavers are skilled in making three-pieces, lungis, towels, chadars, veils etc. of various colors and designs.
Tangail sarees are characterized by border or edge work. Saree weaving looms in Tangail are of two types— (1) Chittaranjan (Mihi) loom, (2) Pitlum (Khatkhti) loom. These two types of looms are used to make sarees of different colors and designs. Like – Jamdani or Soft Silk, Half Silk, Tangail B.T, Baluchari, Avarvarad, Hazarbuti, Sutipard, Katki, Swarnachur, Ikkat, Anarkali, Devdas, Kumkum, Sananda, Nilambari, Mayurkanthi and general quality sarees.
Different names and quality of saree, handwork, color of saree texture also vary in price. Minimum 200 to 50 thousand taka. Among these, Jamdani or soft silk is the most expensive. Jamdani sarees are made according to international standards. The weavers use 100 count Japanese yarn to make this saree. Of course, 100 count thread is used to make other sarees, but sometimes 80, 82 and 84 count thread produced in Narayanganj knitting industry is also used.
Before the partition of India, the sari market of Tangail weavers was located in Kolkata. It still has an effect. Since the establishment of Pakistan, the main haat of Tangail weaving has been Bajitpur and later Kartia in Tangail.
Bajitpur Hat is located one and a half kilometers south of the Tangail main town and Kartia is eight kilometers south along the Dhaka-Tangail highway. Bajitpur haat on every Monday and Friday and Kartia haat on Wednesday-Thursday. The market here starts from dawn and lasts till 9-10 am. Most of the customers of this market are moneylenders. Apart from moneylenders, many people buy their favorite sarees from this haat as well.
❤️ Thanks Everyone❤️ |
