Where it all started.

The very first involvement of KLSketchnation in volunteerism projects started with this one project. Few years ago we were invited by our NGO partners the Projek Kalsom and Small Changes to involve with a community project called the Seeds of Deeds in Publika, Kuala Lumpur to raise funds for a programme they are having to fight for education inequality, by visiting a rural area school and conduct a 5 days english camp which includes a series of workshops such goal settings, career planning, mock up interviews, public speaking, etc.

Our role for the one day fundraising program was to help with a total of 80 kids from 3 organization, the San Pedro Orphanage, Haluan Penyayang and Yayasan Chow Kit to teach them to sketch on watercolour postcards to be sold for fundraising. They were quite desperate for some help that time due to most of their own volunteers were unavailable for the program so they asked us to help providing few artists from our team. Was'nt really sure if the team are into this kind of project last time as we never involved in one, we did make a shout out to call for volunteers in a very short noticed (2 days before the event!).

It was really a pleasant surprise for me, as we've got more than 20 people (some brought their children to help out too!) from our side wearing our black and orange t-shirt turn up on the event to lend a hand and interact with these kids. I would never imagined seeing our active sketchers enjoyed themselves so much around these kids painting and drawing with them.

Well we were so happy to know that the event helped out to complete the fundraising and finally all of us get to raised RM100,000 to help 2000 underprivileged kids across the nation. This particular event is an eye opener for myself. I have never felt so satisfied in my whole life and have felt that i have found my purpose in life.

This event was just the start of bigger things. Since then, i have pledge to do more of these volunteerism and humanitarianism initiatives through KL Sketchnation. And now it has become the core strength of our group. more and more people joined us to play their part in the society.

In KL Sketchnation, we celebrate togetherness in sketching. :)
