Have you ever saved a donkeys life?

in #animals7 years ago

Well I did it, everything is available online for Christmas gifts last minute if you are in a pinch!

I didn't want to do the traditional gift giving this season but realized I did not specify this with my family which might make it kinda awkward tomorrow when I go there for the day.

My younger brother and I made arrangements in advanced to skip the gifts and do a ski day together in January. This way we could spend money on doing something fun together! We both figured it would be way cooler than just getting each other some random thing from the store that neither of us would likely use... Well he might use my gift because I am pretty sure I buy most if not all his clothes but you get the point.

I mentioned this boycott of the gift exchange to the rest of my family but I am pretty sure no one took me seriously so tonight was spent finding online items to give to them tomorrow.

Being away from a Canadian Christmas for so many year I just got used to not doing the Christmas hustle and I feel like it's the way to go for me weather I am here or or away!

Meet Kiki

Kiki is a Mammoth donkey at the Turtle Valley Donkey Refuge in the Shuswap who is available to be sponsored. Today I sponsored him on behalf of my parents and once it warms up a bit I am going to go to the refuge and introduce my parents to their new adopted donkey!

This refuge has been around since 1999 and gives the donkeys five basic freedoms,

Freedom from Hunger and Thirst
Freedom from Discomfort
Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease
Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour
Freedom from Fear and Distress

The difference between this refuge and other animal shelters is that this refuge will become the Donkey's forever home. A lot of people who purchase donkey's are unaware that they will live for up to 50 years and end up being unable to take care of them their entire lives resulting in the donkeys being abandoned.

I look forward to taking my parents to this refuge once it warms up to meet Kiki the donkey! I am sure there is a lot to learn about the donkeys and why these people are so passionate about helping their quality of life!

Follow me @kylaki if you want to hear more about my first Christmas back in Canada or if you want to see what else I'm up to in Canada and around the world!

As always comments, upvotes and resteems are very much appreciated ❤️

Oh man they totally loved it!! My brother randomly got them a donkey calendar so it was kinda like a theme! They want to go see their new donkey asap lol!

Wow that's great. I am happy for you.
Time spent with the family is one of the best times of life. Now I have realized it when I am living in the University dorm :p

Yah it’s good to spend time with your family. You must miss yours if you are living away from them. I want to get closer with my family I going to work on that this year 😄

It should be like your resolution for the new year to spend more time with family. Right?
It's been two months when I saw them but hopefully in two weeks my exams will be over and then I could finally go home, sweet home.

Interesting post. Wishing all of you a joyous Christmas. A little smile, a word of cheer a bit of love a little gift from one held dear, best wishes for the coming year.

Aww that is a really nice little jingle, Merry Christmas to you too!!
