The historic Secretariat Building in Yangon
The historic Secretariat Building in Yangon will be open to the public on Martyrs’ day … 19 July - this year marks the 70th anniversary and more access will be granted.
The colonial-era building, where parliament sessions were once held, has only occasionally granted public access. On Martyrs’ Day in 2014, the building was opened to the public for the first time in decades. On Martyrs’ Day this year, it will be open for the fourth time with more access.
Spokesperson, Secretariat Conservation Group, May Thandar Win: On Martyrs’ Day, the public will have access to parliament building and cabinet meeting room for the first time. And as for the series of activities, Martyrs’ Day Art Exhibition and Religious Ceremony for the Martyrs will be included.
The Secretariat Building is one of Yangon's oldest heritage structures.
The public can walk in for free from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on the Martyrs’ Day … the 19th of July.
