Keeping close --- Devotional
My neighbour's mile-long walk home after dropping off his son at his school grants him the chance to memorize some Bible verses—if he is intentional about doing so. According to him, whenever he takes those minutes to turn over God’s Word in his mind, he consistently finds those words returing to him later in the day, bringing forth wisdom as well as comfort.
When Moses was preparing the Israelites to make entrance into the land God had promised them, he advised them to hold God’s decrees and commands very close (Deuteronomy 6:1–2). Wanting them to prosper, Moses urged them to turn these instructions over in their minds, and have discussions with their children
(Verse 6–7). Moses went further to tell the Israelites to bind them to their foreheads and also tie them to their wrists.(Verse 8). He didn’t want them to be oblivious of God’s instructions.
How do you consider the words of God today? One notion is to write out a verse from the scripture, and do your best possible to commit them into memory. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105). Let the word of God guide and direct your path.
Stay blessed.
