WOX Travel Contest | Week 4 | Boat Trip to Baththalangunduwa Island | 3% that save lives!
Hello Steamians,😻
How are you guys? Hope you all keep well. I am very sorry for not being able to participate in the WOX Travel contest last week. 😥 Today I have brought you a story of a small island. "Baththalangunduwa" I know it's very hard for to you spell it. But it's a tiny heaven in Sri Lanka. Ok, let's move to the story without further ado.

I'm focusing to talk under several main topics. They are,
- Brief Intoduction of Baththalngunduwa.
- How to go there.
- Main activities that can do here.
- Beutiful things you can see on the island.
- Things to know before going there.

Baththalangunduwa is a tiny island located in the Puttalam District of Sri Lanka. There are 14 islands in Puttalam District. However, Battalanguwa is 2nd largest island among them. But it's still a small island because it is about 1.5km2. Kalpitiya is the nearest city & jetty to Baththangunduwa from the main island. There is 35km to Baththalangunduwa from Kalpity. Baththalangunduwa is a fishing village. There are 200 fishermen on the island. However, that count could be changed. Because they are here temporarily. There are several churches, a police station, and several shops on the island. However, there are not any star-class hotels on the island. It is a very hot island & the normal temperature is around 30Co 35Co. The fishermen on the island are very friendly and you can give a small help to them and they will give you free fish.

You already know there is about 35km to the island from Kalpity jetty. So you have 2 choices to go there. The 1st one is you can take a private boat but it's costed. The 2nd one is you can go by public boat service it's not much cost as 1st choice. Private boat price is around 15,000 LKR(227 STEEM) 😺for the two-way ride and the maximum pax is 6. Public boat individual ticket price is 1,400 LKR(21 STEEM) for two-way. However, you can take a private boat at any time. But there is only 1 public boat and It departs at 7.30 am every day from Kalpity jetty & returns at 1.00 pm from the island. I will guide you on how to go to Kalpity from Colombo(the Capital city of Sri Lanka). If you are planning to take the public boat, follow this method. You should take Colombo to Puttalam bus at midnight and get down at Palavi junction It will 4-5 Hour journey. The bus route number is 04. After that you can take the bus to Kalpity jetty from Palavi It will 1-hour journey. You need to take food, water, and essentials from Kalpitiya. Because on the island there is no clean water & there are only a few shops. If you are departure by public boat it will be 4 hour's journey. But if you depart by private boat you can reach the island within 1 and a half hours.

On the island, you can do a lot of things some of which are,
- Sea bathing 🌍The sea is very calm from December to April.
- Camping 🌍You can do beach camping and campfire on the island however you should bring camping equipment because there is no camping tent rent-out place on the island.
- Kite surfing, Boat riding 🌍you can do these activities on the island & you can find out organizing agencies around Kalpity.
- Scuba Diving & Snokerling 🌍There are several small coral reefs around the island.

On the island you can see both sunset & sunrise You can collect enough sea shells. Because a lot of seashells get tangled in fishing nets and pile up on the shores.

Pay attention to these things before you go to the island.
- Carry as much water as necessary.
- If you are going camping, take a strong camping tent. Because some time the wind will be strong.
- Keep the contact details of a private boat. Because go to mother island in case of emergency.

Thank You
You guessed it :)
Thank you for your participation in the contest. It's great that you don't even have to leave your homeland to visit paradise. Nature has gifted Sri Lanka with everything it could.
This is a very interesting post. If it weren't for it, I probably would never have known about Baththalangunduwa Island, let alone seen it.
Say hi to your sister from us and invite her to join Steemit as well, if of course she hasn't already done so.
Thank you for your appreciation. My sister already have Steemit account. However still she didn't post anything because she is working in a bank & she is little bit busy these days you know march 31 is end of the accounting year. She will start her Steemit journy next month

💙🥳 Thank You
Lovely journey! When we go to the beach, my husband and I, we always collect sea shells. This would be the perfect place for us. The water looks gorgeous.
Thank You dr
I really enjoy a variety of hiking and traveling. I try as much as possible to go on something like this with my family. Especially, of course, my son likes to go boating with me. But I have been looking for a long time for a suitable boat for this purpose. I can advise all beginners to look for a quality boat here https://kolibriboats.com/us/catalog/rowing-boats/. I bought one and I am extremely satisfied with the final result.
