Hello Everyone, ๐Ÿ˜‡

Hope you all are keeping well. This is my 2nd week in attending this contest. This time I hope to write about one of the Sri Lankan famous pilgrimage destination. Adam's Peak is 4th highest mountain in Sri Lanka. It is very famous.๐Ÿ˜ There are several reasons for this popularity. They are,

  • Buddhist people believe that there is Buddha's footprint.๐Ÿ’™
  • The mountain is visible for an area of 150 km.๐Ÿ’š
  • Catholics believe that Adam lived there.๐Ÿ’œ
  • There are 8 routes to go there and different experiences can be gained from the 8 routes.๐Ÿ’›
  • 4 main rivers start from this mountain and you can see a very beautiful view.๐Ÿ’™

According to historical sources, Buddha visited Sri Lanka 3 times. The 3rd time Buddha came to Sri Lanka as per the request of the Naga king named Maniakkitha. That time buddha visited Kelaniya(Maniakkitha' s Kingdom), Samanthakuta(Adam's Peak), Muthiyanganaya and 9 other locations. According to the Buddhist historical resources placed his foot print on the top of Sri Pada mountain. So nowadays Buddhist people visit there and worshiping buddha's foot print.๐Ÿ˜ธ

Rathnapura - Palabaddala Trail

Adam's Peak is located at Nuwara Eliya district it means it's located at the middle of the country. But even from Colombo, Kalutara, Monaragala, which is a very far away city, you can see Adam's peak. So every people in Sri Lanka try to hike that mountain at least once in their lifetime.๐Ÿ’ซ

Hatton - Nallathanniya Trail

According to catholic people the believe Adam was lived there. Islamic people also have their religious beliefs about this mountain. However I don't know lot of thing about it.๐ŸŒท

There are 8 difference routes to go to the peak. They are,

Wide view (Rathnapura - Palabaddala trail)

I have traveled the first 3 routes 8 times. However those routes finally connect to first 2 routes. Hatton - Nallathanniya trail is the shortest trail its only 7km far. According to my experience Kuruwita - Erathna trail is the most beutiful trail. Its 14km far and about 12 hours takes to go to the peak. The longest trail is Deraniyagala - Maliboda trail. It is more than 17km.Ratnapura - Palabaddala trail is oldest trail and buddha used that trail to go to the peak. It means that trail is old more than 2500 years.๐ŸŒธ

Final 1km

Mahaweli, Kelani, Kalu, Walawe are the 4 main rivers in Sri Lanka and these 4 rivers flow in 4 directions in Sri Lanka. Specially these 4 rivers are start from Adam's peak. If you are hike to the top you can see a 360 degree view. You can also see ships moving in the sea at a distance about 150 km.๐ŸŒป

I would like to share one of my experiences at the Kuruwita - Erathna trail. That day I went to Kuruwita from Colombo early in the morning by bus. Its took about 3 hours. And again I took a bus to Erathna from Kuruwita. There are only 2 buses in that route. It took 1 hour. That day 5 of my friends joined me. We started hiking at 8am. By the time we reached the top of the mountain, it was almost 8 pm. Since this road is a lonely road, there are no shops on the way. We didn't meet any people on the way except squirrels, rabbit, wild boars. We had our lunch and bathed in the river Sithagagula. There are small huts called "Ambalama" along the way. If you plan to camp, you can do so near these huts.๐ŸŒ‰

Finally I would like to share with you some of the photos I took in 2020 on the Kuruwita - Erathna trail.๐ŸŒ„
