PHOTO OF THE DAY #8. Photo of Jupiter from an unusual angle.

in #photography6 years ago

A snapshot of the southern polar region of Jupiter was made by the interplanetary space station NASA Juno during the completion of its tenth approach to the gas giant.

The "empty" space around Jupiter in a photo with improved colors a little deceives our mind, forcing to perceive the largest planet of our solar system as less colossal than it really is. Jupiter is so huge that it would accommodate as many as 11 Earth planets, arranged in a row.

The Juno spacecraft took this picture on December 16, 2017, when it was about 104 km from the tops of the clouds of the gas giant.

You just imagine: the scale of the image is 70.2 km per pixel !!!!
