We have visited the Pannonhalma Archabbey recently. I have already made two posts about it (you can check them here and here), however I did not show you pictures of the building complex. Unfortunately we have arrived there late, so we could not enter, we could only see it from outside, but even this was truly impressive. I am planning to return once when I have a chance to enter, because it is said to have a wonderful basilica, a baroque refectory as well as a significant library inside. The place is really ancient: it was founded as the first Hungarian monastery in 996 and it soon became the centre of the Benedictine order. There is also a secondary school operated by the order within the complex.

After climbing up the hill through the gorgeaous botanic garden, the first thing you see is the entrance. The monastery looks like a fortress, surrounded by high walls. You can take a nice trip walking around:

Going a bit further, you will find the statue of the first Hungarian king, St. Stephen with the Millenium Monument and the Our Lady Chapel in the background.

There are nice details all around the place:

And going even further you will see the lookout tower and the tree-top walkway that I have mentioned in the posts quoted above. These are awesome, too.
