SteemitPhotoChallenge Entry | Scarred

in #photography7 years ago

I love entering different photo contests, and when @jamtaylor announced a new contest with the theme "Human Body", I decided to enter something more personal.

I was diagnosed with a terminal illness March 2015. Its called Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, which is a lung and heart disease. It's one in a million chance of getting this disease, so it's very rare. I think we're only 600 people in Norway who has it. They also discovered a large hole in my heart and told me I needed an open heart surgery. Doing that surgery was a risky thing to do.

My doctors weren't sure of how my lungs and heart would react to closing the large hole. But after over a year on medication they decided to do it. My body reacted good to the medication, and it was time to make another effort to help my body even more.

When they opened me up, they saw that the hole were 4 cm in diameter, which was much larger than they first had anticipated. They closed it up, but left 7 mm opening in case something should go wrong later on.

It's the hardest thing I have ever done, and I really hope I never have to go through it again. I'm glad I did it though. There is no cure for this disease, but I've never felt better than I do today.

I didn't know if I liked the photo in black and white, or in colors, so I decided to enter both of them. Let me know which one you liked the best in the comment section.

Thank you for sharing this personal story. The photo is so simple yet so powerful, I love it! Glad to be a follower!

Wow! Awesome comment! Thank you, really appreciate it :)

You are a very strong woman for surviving all this. Congradulations and good luck in the future. Just one thought aren't we all happy our internal organs don't itch? 😁

Thank you so much. Oh my God, yes! That would have been terrible!

I can see why it was hard to decide. Your hands & freckles are so gorgeous in the color shot but the black & white feels strangely powerful.
Beautiful share.

Yes, that was what I was thinking. I feel I can see the scar much better in the color shot, but the black and white tells more of a story. Thanks for the comment, really appreciate you telling me what you think :) Have a nice day!

@kristinbr i said a different is good, keep SteemOn :)

Thank you :)

The shot itself does really make an impact and when coupled with a story it is even stronger. I hope that you get well and never have to go through it again.

Thank you so much! Really appreciate your comment :) Yeah, luckily I'm doing so much better now :)

I am so glad to hear that! :)
