European Scientists Want To Create A Virtual Earth
European experts came with an ambitious project that should allow them to predict the future of climate change. They want to create a virtual version of our whole planet for modeling selected scenarios.

According to available information, this digital twin should be sort of a playground where scientists will be able to test the effects of different climate control measures. This should be part of the ten-year-long program of the European Union called Destination Earth. The final goal is to set a way towards carbon neutrality by the year 2050.
For example, if you are planning to build a two-meter tall dam in the Netherlands the data can first go through the Earth’s digital twin and find out with what probability this dam will protect against some of the extreme weather patterns we expect to be happening in 2050.
Nonetheless, based on information published in the journal Nature Computational Science the realization of this vision won’t be easy. The creation of such a sophisticated simulation will require specialized equipment and perhaps even more advanced supercomputers than currently exist.
