What is happening in Korea?

Most of the major universities are in Seoul (the capital city) and the Kyeongki area , so it takes a lot of time to commute to the Uni for those who don't live in Seoul.

Question: Who would you rather be between a commuter and a dweller near the Uni?

@katechoi

I would rather commute if it doesn't take too much time.

First of all, I can eat the food that my mom makes. If I become a solo dweller, I would have to eat food checking my economic status. It is true that the rents are less expensive near the Unis, but it's expensive for students.

Second of all, I have more space in my house. It'd be nice to get some personal space as a solo dweller, but I don't want to have to work for a part time job for the monthly rent.
Lastly, I have my family to care after me in my house.

I've been home alone for about a week and the fire alarm went on because I burned the food while cooking it. I panicked more at the fact that I was alone in that situation. If mom was next to me, she would've scolded me and then she would've calmed me down.

@winnie98

I want to be the solo dweller. I'm living in Incheon and it takes bout 4 hours everyday to go to Seoul. I'm really tired even before the class.

My family is conservative, so I have to go back home by 10. I don't have enough time to hang out with my friends, so I want to be a dweller. I think it'd be okay to have a room mate because I'm scared to live alone.

@iamtennis

I want to stay as a commuter. Of course living alone has it's merits. I'd be more free if I live alone, but I'm already living the thug life, so it doesn't matter. Anyways I want to be a commuter because of financial reasons. I'd rather go abroad than paying monthly.

@zoethehedgehog

I would like to live alone. Ever since I was a teenager, my dream was to live alone and be totally independent! I want to decorate my own space and invite some friends over.

I'm not expecting everything to be ideal for I have to take lots of responsibilities myself, but I think that's the price of liberty. I would gladly risk it! Maybe I could live with a friend to feel more safe. I want to live in a place with a housemate!

I think that both living close and far have their benefits, however personally I think that closer is better. Living far away can be nice, however, it means long travel times.

While some people are able to use this time productively, for most people this is just wasted time, or time spent doing something you would prefer to not be doing. But on the other hand, I believe that living a distance from University is also better as it can help to separate your social and school life... To me this is important.

@highyoonzi

I personally think living in a dorm is the best option because it's the closest to the uni, but if I had to pick one, I would be a dweller near the uni!

I think I'm wasting the time on the subway. Some people are able to use that time beneficially, but not for me!

Especially in the exam season. I really don't like the crowded people in the subway too. It's uncomfortable and it's difficult to hold still in a packed crowd.

So I normally leave home early to not be in a crowded subway! I can also use my time on my own if I become a solo dweller! I can sometimes hang out with my friends till night time! Though I will be missing out the time with my family, I prefer being a dweller! :)

@soul1590

I prefer to be a commuter! I've lived in the dorm since I was a high school student, I really miss my parents and I'm sometimes lonely here :'(

It will be hard to wake up in the morning but I think it's not that bad to take the bus or a subway in the morning. I can see lots of people and feel the fresh air!

@williampark

I am currently attending school for about two hours. In the beginning of the semester, it was hard to get up early, so I thought about joining the dormitory, but I gradually got used to it.

Moreover, my friends who live alone near the school envy me because I get to eat good meals. It is good to live near the uni, but it is better to commute if it's not too far.

@septemberbre2ze

I might have an idealistic image of being a dweller, but a friend of mine was great at being one, so I prefer dwelling.

First of all it's hard to live alone but it's a good opportunity to take responsibility, for it's the first step of being an adult.

Secondly, living close to Uni means that you have more time to sleep, and that you have more time to spend for your own. This will help you grow as a person.

Of course there are the non-idealistic sides of being a solo dweller, but these things will eventually become a life routine. I don't think that being a solo dweller is always a great thing but even failure in the process will mean something. This means growth as a human being.
