Visit to Antalya - Turkey Day 6
You can either read the background information about the photos I have taken or skip to the photos at the bottom.
Hadrian's Gate
This was our 6th day here in Turkey and we decided to go out for the day, it was mainly to visit the market and the shops but there was also an historical tour of the Old Town. Which has many ancient and classic buildings.
The first building we saw was Hadrian's gate as it is the entrance to the Oldtown which was originally all of Antalya. The gate was built in 130 AD to commemorate the visit of Emperor Hadrian, It was incorporated into the thick walls which defended the city.
You also have the towers which are either side of the gate as well as the original Roman road, you can even see the deep indents from carriages.
The Rest Of The Tour
We walked deeper into oldtown and the contrasts between the two sides of Antalya became more apparent, it's very rare for a city to retain it's historical part because usually a city is build upon.
So as we walked we could see the narrow streets and the unique buildings which had many different time periods stamped on it's architecture. We also saw two moskes which one was in use whilst the other was now a museum. Both at least 600 years old.
Even though lots of buildings are privately owned and have been converted into restaurants and hotels they still kept there historical look.
The day out was really good and came home with lots of knowledge as well as clothes. Hope you enjoy the photos!
