I missed Maslenitsa 2018?!
Maslenitsa also known as Butter Week, Crepe week, or Cheesefare Week) is an Eastern Slavic religious and folk holiday, celebrated during the last week before Great Lent, that is, the eighth week before Eastern Orthodox Pascha (Easter). Maslenitsa corresponds to the Western Christian Carnival, except that Orthodox Lent begins on a Monday instead of a Wednesday, and the Orthodox date of Easter can differ greatly from the Western Christian date.
During Soviet times, Maslenitsa, like other religious holidays, was not celebrated officially. However, it was widely observed in families without its religious significance, as an opportunity to prepare crepes with all sorts of fillings and coverings and to eat and share them with friends.
Alright, thanks Wikipedia! The full article can be found here.
So after seeing a bunch of crepe photos on Instagram that my friends posted, I was like, damn this is Maslenitsa and I should probably make some myself, but as you know I have been turbo busy playing that one video game I wrote about in one of my previous posts, so I missed it. However, I am not worried about it, it doesn't have to be a crepe week to fry some up in my book, so here go blini! The recipe is as basic as it could possibly get, I am still going to post it here just because.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup flour;
- 1 1/2 cup milk;
- 2 eggs;
- a pinch of salt;
- sugar (optional);
- 2 table spoons cooking oil or melted butter.
Directions:
In a medium mixing bowl combine flour, eggs, milk, salt and oil (butter). Heat a lightly greased skillet and fry at a medium heat. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.
I used some chocolate syrup and fresh strawberries for mine. Honey and walnuts make a delicious topping as well so does condensed milk :D.

а я и думаю: где твои блины?))
а вот и они)
Ага, таки приготовила, хорошо что немного и не нужно было даже выбрасывать те, что не съели хахаха

@kotturinn here in the UK we call it shrove Tuesday.We celebrated last week.I cooked some amazing pancakes for the kids.They like freshly squeezed lemon and oranges with sugar.Your photos are so visually stunning.Even the humble pancake you effortlessly make look so tasty.Thanks for sharing! 👌👍🏼♥🥞
Oh I had no idea it was celebrated in the UK, I kinda thought it was strictly an Eastern European thing, but it's cool you guys have a similar thing!
Thank you very kindly :D
Yes we do. The children call it pancake day. It is celebrated day before Ash Wednesday.So the day before the beginning of Lent. It has become a much loved tradition making pancakes on the shrove Tuesday.It is so wonderful how we all are connected celebrating key events and we are not even aware of how similar we do things. 👍🏼♥
Very true, thanks for letting me know :D
Красивейшие фотографии, а блины с клубникой и шоколадным сиропом выглядят приочень вкусно)).
