Saving sharks is as easy as saying #NoToSharkFin
Chinese New Year is just around the corner. During such festive seasons, families gather for nice reunion meals. Malaysian of all races may join their friends and colleagues for a sumptuous meal and catch-up. This is may be accompanied by some delicacies, perhaps a bowl of shark fin soup? Should that be on your menu? We hope the answer is NO. Say NO to shark fin.

Although sharks are also sought for its meat, leather, liver oil and cartilage, at least 100 million sharks are being killed per year mainly due to the demand for shark fin. Their decline will affect the health of the ocean as sharks are apex predators that maintain the balance of marine ecosystem - by preying on old, sick or slower fishes to keep the population of other fishes healthy. If sharks are absent, the marine ecosystem may lose this fine balance.

There are still restaurants serving shark fin in this country. If you and your family have not chosen to remove this dish and its related products from your celebration menu, please start doing so this New Year. You have the power to save this species, say NO to Shark Fin. - http://www.wwf.org.my/
