ARE U HUMBLE ENOUGH TO LEARN?
Mum used to tell me that " what you don't know remains your master until you conquer it by knowing it".
In the mid and late eighties, going to America was like going to heaven, I desired so much to travel majorly to go to school in a supposed conducive environment. So she joined the band wagon of Visa seeking youths, she applied first, second, third and fourth time without any success,all between 1988 and 1992. Then she came down south to Ibadan where she met a man that does preparation of visa documents for a living. she approached this man,because she had no money to pay, she offered to work for him without pay all because she wanted to know how to apply for Visa.
she practically became his servant, from cultural center in mokola to dugbe alawo and ran errands on my feet in hot sun sometimes in rain. she may run this errands thrice a day back and forth without reasonable food in my belly.
At the end she not only became perfect in the trade but also got a one year multiple entries Visa in 1993,a feet that was almost impossible at that time, especially on a virgin passport. Are you humble enough to learn?
In 2007, I wanted to study Law, Lasu told me that my o level results were obsolete, they gave me two options, it's either I go to my school and bring my original waec results as against ordinary statement of result,or sit for another GCE, I chose the latter, registered in a secondary school attended a regular school hours class all in an effort to get myself familiar with the curriculum and pass GCE, I was well over forty years old then,but I sat for the exam and passed well. Are you humble enough to learn?
When I contested for a post in 2014, I lost woefully, after that primary election in sch, I retired home that night and began to think what really went wrong, I thought over and over again, I couldn't remember one thing that I did wrongly, I thought again I couldn't remember what I did that I was not supposed to do, then I began to think about the person that won. "Definitely he must know what I didn't know " that which he knows I equally wants to know. I called him the next day and pledged my support and loyalty to him,we did all his campaigns together, I was there when they declared him winner of the general election around 2.33am on that fateful day. Up until date I'm still learning under him, I consider him my political master. Are you humble enough to learn?.....................
Even on this social media, there are some people I consider my masters, Bro Agunze Azuka Onwuka is a gentleman that I've known for about six years, I knew and fell in love with him through his column in punch newspaper. I love his finesse,his style of writing and his fairness on most knotty issues. Do I agree with him all the time? Hell no! In fact we fiercely disagreed on more issues than we've agreed, but I call him my lecturer because he knows what I don't know. Are you humble enough to learn?
How about Sis Olu Bunmi the lady that unknowingly helped me to rediscover my writing skills again. Here I met Omobolaji Niniowo, onigegewura the man that makes history looks like bread and butter, Tolulope Fakayode-Faniran,has corrected some of my common mistakes in English composition, Uche Onochie Audrey, Uche Udensi, Catherine Josiah Aghaulor, A.i. Mercygrace, Defunke Adewumi,Olori Ashabi Oge Oluwayemisi Iya Oluwafikayomi,Oluwabunmi Kolawole-Ishola and many more are people that have impacted my life either through their writing or activities. Are you humble enough to learn?
I call them my teacher because sometimes they write what I don't know, is it about age? What you don't know will remain your master my friend. Learning is my hobby, let it be yours too if you want to be free of ignorance, learn from anybody, and anything. If you are a good learner you'll be a great achiever. Are you humble enough to learn?
Thomas Edison, the history says, failed 99times to make light available, but he converted his failed times to his times of learning "I've not failed 99 times, I've only discovered 99 ways by which electricity couldn't work". What a perfect learner!
To be a master you must learn,and to be a good learner you must be humble, I mean very humble. I ask you today. Are you humble enough to learn?
