Continuing To Expand On What We Grow

in #ghsc8 years ago

Hey everyone! I hope all is well. Today, I wanted to talk a little about our garden. Every year, we try to expand what we grow to become as self-sufficient as possible. Also, we are making more of an effort to start saving our seeds. These are two things that we are trying to more and more of each year to ultimately save money.

Well today, I wanted to show two more things that we added to the garden this year. In the pepper department we usually put out some bell peppers, banana peppers, and jalapeño peppers. Well this year when we got a few pepper plants, I guess we grabbed a few thinking they were a bell or jalapeño. When we got to planting them, we realized they were poblano peppers and had never tried them before. I am glad we did because there are several new things to try. Stuffed peppers or even adding a different flavor to the foods we eat is what will make these a keeper. Here is what they look like.

The other big thing that we were wanting to do is expand on the herbs we grow. Late last year, it was the first time herbs were tried on our homestead. Well that cilantro went over pretty well, so we tried a few others. Sweet basil and dill are the only ones that have seemed to take off during our little drought. The goal is to greatly expand on the herbs we grow because what is better than fresh herbs to season our food. It would be really cool to have a good amount to preserve. He is a little of our first dill harvest.

This is only the beginning for us when it comes to the types of fruits, vegetables, and herbs that we grow. Over the next couple of years, I am planning on trying many, many more different and interesting varieties. It helps to keep the garden interesting and, for me, it consistently creates helps me learn new and different things.

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

I am also trying to expand my garden and my plant knowledge. I am honored to support others who are on the path to sustainability. I know my vote isn't worth much but you got it!

Thanks @sugarcreek! It is really interesting to read about what others are planting and doing in their gardens. It seems like I am always picking up little bit of information from the great people in the homestead/sustainability communities. Thanks for stopping by!

My pleasure!
