Saraswati Puja Celebration In My Daughter's Pre-School
Devi Saraswati is The Hindu Goddess of Knowledge, Music, Art, Wisdom and Learning....
Devi Saraswati is not only worshipped throughout Nepal & India but She's also worshipped in countries like Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia & Myanmar.
A standout amongst the most well-known celebrations related with Goddess Saraswati is the Hindu celebration of Vasant Panchami (also spelt as Basant Panchami). It's normally celebrated on the fifth day of the Hindu calendar month of Magha (month), it is otherwise called Saraswati Puja and Saraswati Jayanti in India.
In West Bengal (An Indian State), Goddess Saraswati is adored on Vasant Panchami ( Basant Panchami), a Hindu celebration praised each year on the fifth day of the Hindu calendar month of Magha (about February). But this year it was celebrated on the eighth day of the Hindu Calendar month of Magha (22nd January). We Hindus celebrate this festival in temples, homes and educational institutes alike.
What basically happens in Saraswati Puja?
On this very occasion of Saraswati Puja, Goddess Saraswati is worshipped in schools, colleges, educational institutes as well as in institutes associated with Music & Dance. No Study Day - Almost every student keeps themselves away from books for the day. Books are also given to the Idol of Devi Saraswati for Puja. Cultural programmes are held in almost every school, college and other institutes. Apart from educational institutions and homely puja, Devi Saraswati is also worshipped on Pandals (basically a tent made up of bamboo, colourful clothes with fine decorative items and light).
My daughter's pre-school also celebrated Saraswati Puja with a beautiful Saraswati Idol. The concept of Hate Khori is also seen on this very day. It's a ceremony to introduce education to kids.
Hate Khori is additionally a popular celebration here in West Bengal where little offspring of the age group of 1.5 to 4 yrs are made to perform a custom of writing the first letters of the alphabet (be it Hindi, Bengali or English). Little boys are made to wear mainly dhoti-kurta and little girls are made to wear yellow saree. New black slate, chalk and books are purchased for this ceremony. Pundits perform all the rituals for this ceremony like kids are made to sit on the lap of Pundits who hold their hands and influence them to compose the principal letters of the alphabets.
My daughter's Hate Khori ceremony was over 2 years ago, therefore, you won't see her in any of the photos I am going to share here.
