The ethereum hard fork is exciting

The plan is out. Ethereum is voting to be forked.

To me this is a very interesting event. I have personally lost lots of value by the crash of ethereum due to the DAO hack. However I am very interested in this outcome and it is truly unique.

Why?

To me a blockchain is first and foremost a social system. It is also a machine that lets us transact money and applications but it is first and foremost governed by a community.

Many members in this community made some stupid mistakes, by creating an app that is faulty and by investing lots of money into this faulty app. The laws of nature dictate that these idiots shall be punished.

However this is what societies do. They change what would naturally happen and protect their members. Ethereum now has to make a decision of what is to happen with this attack. Is the hacker supposed to be rewarded for his skills and ability, like nature and the DAO code dictates or will the community rally behinds its victims and protect & defend them against this attack.

It is truly a social decision and a big one for ethereum.

I personally believe that if the attack will be avoided it will show the power and ability to protect a system and its members.

Either way the outcome will be interesting and ok, as it is a democratic decision.
