INFERNO
The type that burns within the heart
Pushing men to strive for excellence
Turning the average to genius in seconds
Today, I think it lost its moral compass
Charring what remained of souls that wailed
as the yellow man chose to colour the day
with light so bright it left a trail of human meat
Honey, I’ll be with you in a few seconds
Terry said with a smile on his face
Cut off by the heat the fire brought...
The world welcomed its latest widow
Sometimes we want to ask why
like it would help us say bye
To those that left without a choice
Crying and losing what was left of their voice
We all want our lives to burn so brightly
We all want to be remembered for something
Today, lives were set ablaze
Leaving us with memories and pangs of hurting
I’ve cried and asked a thousand why’s
Why did they have to be on that road?
Why did the rain not fall?
Why were there so many wasted lives
The hurt I feel and the pain I endure
is nothing compared to what they felt
As they smelled the barbecue of their own skin
Grilled without any type of seasoning
Some lost a friend, some others a family
But what would we say to those
who will never know for sure if they were affected
Seeing nothing was recognizable after the deed was done
Today I write with a heart that burns
Letting the tears ease the hurt I feel inside
Telling the story of a fire that burned without a conscience
Taking lives without their consent
INSIDE THE MIND OF THE POET
It was only yesterday at about 5 pm that the news spread around the Nation that there was a ghastly inferno that was ongoing in the city of Lagos. According to the news reports:
54 vehicles were burnt. There were 45 cars caught in the inferno, along with five buses, two trucks, inec tricycle and the tanker itself.
This type of incident leaves you with a lot of questions, questions that might never get answered and even if they do, it wouldn't bring back the lives that were lost. The truth still remains that there would be no possible way to account for every single life that was lost in that very fire incident, so many would live throughout their life not knowing the factual whereabouts of their loved ones.
My heart goes out to all who lost a relative, friend or colleague. The strength of the Lord will help you wage the troubling emotions that will throng your heart as each day goes by. I would never say that I understand what it feels like, but I do not need to have lost someone to know that death by fire is nothing to be pleased about.
My charge to you though is that you live your life to the fullest, being the best version of you and achieving all that you are meant to achieve because that is what they would want of you.
Even whilst I write, tears trickle down my pale face, I pray that the Lord comforts you and gives you the strength to carry on with life.
I most definitely know that there are survivors, well there you have it. You have another shot to make your life count. Decide to make your stay here on earth worthwhile. Affect as many lives possible with positivity. Seek and find refuge in the word of God, because in the end, He is the only one capable enough to rid you of the weight this incident will bear on your mind.
A pretty sad occurrence. May God save our souls.
I'm still fighting the tears, still trying to believe that it happened. Tweets ,Ig posts and broadcast audios carries an information that this was seen before yesterday. Now the questions on the minds of some persons - Why did they avert this when they saw it?
Some persons are cursing now. I blame the media for not publishing this on time. Do we know if he prayed about it or tried to intervene? It was a warning he received and shared. Some Christians of course must have ignore it and did not pass the info around.
Now this happened.

#praywithoutceasing
You're referring to the audio message by Suleman. Prayers aren't the only answers to everything. We've been praying since. It's time for work. Prayers won't build infrastructures. If the government doesn't get up to at least facilitate the transportation of petroleum based products in a safer way, it'll happen again.
As for the message, not everyone is that religious. And regardless, people might have to go out on those days without any other option. I wouldn't blame anyone dear. We lose some, win some.
Wow, what a devastating accident. My father died in a fire, he was a volunteer firefighter, I wasn't even two when he passed so it stole my chance at knowing him, very sad but I have some wonderful grandparents that loved me all the same.
Now it's one thing to die unintentionally by fire, but in your dad's case, he was a Hero. Not many people go head-on into a fire or even choose to become firefighters knowing the risks involved.

Thank you for saying so @klynic, I think he was. It was a tragic accident that made heros out of too many young volunteers. I was privellaged to meet some of the family members at the 30th anniversary event.
So sorry to hear that. Must have been hard imagining how he looked like or who he was. Glad you got awesome grandparents to have your back.
Thank you, as I was so young it didnt effect me until I was older and it took a while to figure out what is was that upset me.
That sounds like a terrible thing, over 50 cars burnt! There must have been injuries or deaths. Coming from Australia, I am terrified of fire, well mostly of bushfires. One just recently went through our parent in laws town, luckily there was no damage to their side of the town, but it came very very close....
That must have been quite tragic. Fire accidents aren't friendly at all and I wish them on no one

It touches my soul when I watched the video of innocent souls who died in the fire outbreak yesterday. May God comfort the families of those victims 😢 😢 😢
Nice poem
am still on sad mode since yesterday I had about this serious fire accident, in fact I don't know what to say again. May God keep those lost life in peace and God should please always keep us save in every journey of our life.
Oh my God, this is so sad. May God give all the families involved the courage to bear the loss. May we never experience such again
It was a terrible incident yesterday
