RIP Laptop
This day has been coming for a while now and I can't really say I'm surprised. As of today the cooling fan on my Asus laptop has decided to call it quits.
The good news is the hardrive and OS is still intact and perhaps after I walk down to the store tomorrow to purchase some compressed air to blow the fan out it may be usable to gimp along until it's replacement can be purchased.
An attempt to disassemble the thing to attempt to fix the fan was met with fears of bricking the thing and damaging the unit further so I quickly reassembled it and tested functionality.. windbloez still boots but without the fan cooling the AMD A8 series APU it quickly overheats.
Guess it's time to invest in a new work/battle station. Not sure if want to build a workhorse AMD 8 core FX series or look into the RYZEN architecture just released.

Ive had the experience where the dust/grime buildup on the fan blades wont budge with compressed air. Sometimes physical contact is needed to wipe the blades and vacuum it to get the fuzzies out. Good luck!

Just find yourself a nice used laptop with an i5 and nvidia graphics. possibly an i5 vpro. This combo on a laptop should be more than powerful enough and my mother in law just bought one used for $100. Even has a sim card slot for a cell sim. Driver isnt being found from windows 7 for it but I'm sure if I put in a little leg work I coud get it working.
