Peonies. Oil diptych. Part one

in #elegance6 years ago

Hello, everyone!

Recently, I got the idea to decorate the white walls of my kitchen. I have a fairly large empty space between the bar and the ceiling, which was decided to fill. I could not find a solid canvas of such length, since I wanted to paint the work with oil paints, so it was decided to paint a diptych. The size of each painting – 50*70 сm.
I chose a theme for a long time, finally settling on flowers. I decided to paint peonies in a color composition that echoed the interior of the kitchen.

Today I will show how I painted the first picture of the diptych.

First, I drew the contours of the drawing with a pencil.

Started to paint from the background. To make the flowers look contrasting, I chose a dark emerald color for the background. Overlay the paint tight enough on the canvas.

Passed to the formation of petals. Began with the central flower of the picture. Applied on his petals forming transparent lines of blue and dark purple colors.

On the petals of the central peony I added transparent red lines-reflexes, colored the core in red and burgundy.

Began to form the shadows. With dark blue color emphasized each individual petal. I applied paint on canvas with translucent strokes. I tried to show the shadows of the petals, emphasizing their veins.

I painted in a similar way all the other flowers in the picture. When the first translucent layers dry, grab onto the canvas, I began to impose a basic white color on the petals. For this I mixed zinc white with cadmium light yellow. At the edges of the petals I put pure white color. I applied paint densely on the canvas. On the petals in addition to the dark blue shadows imposed purple intermediate shadows.

When the picture dries out (it is better to wait when it dries completely), I do the glazing with the use of dammar varnish. I applied translucent dark blue lacquer layers to the darkest places, forming the volume of the picture. I added leaves to the drawing, drawing them with grass green and yellow paints.

At the final stage I emphasized some details on the picture. The picture is almost ready, but it will be necessary to correct it when the second part of the diptych is drawn in order to combine the pictures into a single whole in a color and compositional ratio.

Thank you for attention!
