Autumn time is a colorful time of beautiful landscapes and harvesting.
What is the autumn harvest without a bright pumpkin? This unusually beautiful fruit has a memorable, bright appearance, many looks, a special aroma. Pumpkin, I firmly associated with fairy tales (remember Cinderella) and Halloween.
I decided to paint a pastel pumpkin still life.

      First, I drew the contours  with a light orange color.

Started to paint over. For the pumpkin I used all the orange and brown colors. The most lighted areas of the pumpkin were painted in yellow. With pastel drew lines in the shape of the fruit, then shadуed the color transitions with fingers.

I turn to the following elements of the picture. I painted over the sliced pumpkin with orange and yellow shades.

By the same principle I painted over the last two pumpkins. I didn’t pay much attention to the shadow and contrast of the picture at this stage.

Turn to the background. The still-life background is a wooden wall and table, so I painted the boards with the main light brown color, tracing their edges with dark brown pastel. I also drew a cutting board and a knife.

At the final stage I increased the shadows on the pumpkins and the background using dark brown and black pastel colors. I emphasized the details, the relief of the shape of the pumpkins, the textural drawing on the planks, the light reflections I painted in white. My picture is ready.

Since I only have pastels in sticks, it is a little difficult to draw small details, as I always want to achieve a neatness in drawing. I would like to buy pastel pencils and good pastel paper in the future.
