A New Place At My Old Place - Taman U Skudai
After I graduated for like 3 years plus, this cafe had just started a year ago serving the Taman U community which mainly consisted of UTM students and staffs and young family where one or two of the parents working in Singapore. These majority would always keep the town lively and it is interesting to find new place sprouting. This means that it is good to do business around here too. In comparison to Penang market, Johor market is largely influence by the SGD, especially those who earn in Singapore and staying in Malaysia. Their spending power as a young graduate is enormous, 3 times the local rate. Thus, there are equally numbers of shop like f&b and retails around Johor (starting from Skudai down to JB town).
Well, back to this cafe where my friend brought me in. This is a unique upper floor cafe open by a pair of married couple. The husband is a Malay while the wife is a Chinese. I love the vibe here as you can see people from all races come together and eat while both of the husband and wife hustle and bustle around the restaurant, serving the customers.
For the food, I would say it is good in overall but not as good as higher end restaurant. Plus, the price is affordable too! Not to forget that the husband knows well the local Chinese do not like things to be sweet, so when we order Teh Ais, the boss automatically asked us "mau kurang manis kan?", meaning less sugar. This is what I call a good customer service and that is how the place get more traction.

You can see there're a lot of fancies stickers, magnets, artifacts from the old days exhibited all around the cafe. Bringing you back to the 70s and 80s.
When I was there, it was a rainy day, so we decided to sit at the balcony side which is also shaded.
In overall, I would recommend people to go when you are around Taman University Skudai. A good place to hangout and the food is decent and affordable.
