Today's Weed News For December 5th 2018 #COMMUNICATION

For today's weed news we go to the great state of New Mexico.

Since the days of Reefer Madness through the end of the 20th century, and beyond, the truth about cannabis has been intentionally distorted. It's countless benefits hidden beneath decades of lies and propaganda.

But now, the Communication and Journalism Department at the University of New Mexico is taking a major step to start fixing this problem.

That is because starting in the spring semester of next year, the University will be offering CJ 293, a Cannabis and Communication course.

The class is designed to teach students how to approach topic of marijuana in terms of interpersonal communication, journalism, entertainment media, as well as political communication and more. It will basically shed some light on how best to talk to others about all of the various aspects of cannabis.

"Marijuana is an important, controversial and emerging topic in the U.S. and globally ... Our goal is to introduce UNM students in all majors to the department and the fields of communication and journalism by engaging them in exploring some of the many different communicative dimensions of marijuana," said UNM associate professor Tamar Ginossar, the instructor for the upcoming class.

Although CJ 293 is not the first cannabis-related course offered by an American University, it is still the first of its kind.

"The class is unique and innovative... Although some universities are including cannabis-related courses in their curricula, to our knowledge this is the first time that a university is providing a course that examines cannabis through an introductory communication course that is open to all students and is relevant to all majors," Ginossar continued.

Sounds good to me. I especially like how the professor says that the class will be relevant to all majors.

I feel like cannabis is going to be a huge topic for the next couple of decades at least. Most people, regardless of what you study, or if you even went to college or not, will have to deal with cannabis in their life in some way or another. It might be at work, the doctor's office, their private life, entertainment, dating a patient or recreational smoker, the polls, just driving by a cannabis billboard, or wherever.

Shoutouts out to the University of New Mexico for keeping up with the times!

Who would have thought that one day, parents would pay thousands and thousands of dollars to send their kids to college so that they can learn about weed =')

And that's what's up in New Mexico.
