Santana - IV

in #music10 years ago

Carlos Santana's 2016 release, IV, is the next logical release after Santana III from 1971, almost an entire lifetime ago! Over the most recent 20 years of his career, Santana has made a HUGE name for himself by integrating the latest pop stars into his musical releases. Major stars like Celo Green, Mary J. Blidge, Steven Tyler, Everlast, and Macy Gray have had guest appearances creating some of the best pop music of this century.

However, before the epic, huge, pop-stardom, there was a classic fusion between Jazz and Rock with a certain Latino flare that was unique and distinguished since the 1960's!

Santana is 69 years of age during this recording but it doesn't show one bit. Santana's guitar cries just as it always has, but this time around there is no pop star. In fact, Wikipedia attributes much of this classic sound to the fact that the old band from 1975 is back together again after nearly 45 years of working apart!

Gregg Rolie is back on this album and I know you all remember his silky smooth voice from the insanely popular tunes of the 1970's like, Black Magic Woman, Evil Ways, and Oye Como Va.

This is modern day music, aged to perfection. I only wish we could have seen this same thing from Santana's peers who just didn't make it this far like Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and so many more. So take advantage of this, it really is something pretty special for Santana fans.
