New Kitten - Loki
After losing our two cats who were in their twenties, we took some time off to give life a try without any cats.
That lasted about 4 months. LOL!
The past year has been the darkest year of my life, and we wondered when we would finally get our share of light.
Loki
Meet Loki, our new kitten! This is a photo of him at the Animal Shelter where we got him. This is the first time he ever met my wife. They fell in love with each other that instant.
He is absolutely perfect and exactly what we needed to lift the depression we had been going through. Suddenly I am sleeping better again, like I used to. I smile more, and generally feel better about life now.
Black Tabby Coloring
Our last cat was black, so we went to the Animal Shelter knowing we would never get another black cat ever again. Thinking about my 23 year-old who just died last March was too painful.
But Loki was very vocal. It felt very strange, like he was calling to us. It felt like he was saying, "I am your old cat reborn, don't you recognize me?" I know that was just in my head, but still felt very real in the strangest of ways.
When we got him home we actually noticed that in the right light, he is not a black cat. He is a very dark, black tabby. The black tabby is actually quite rare and appears to be the result of a unique mix of genetics for some mutts, as the tabby coloring pattern can happen to any breed.
Kitten Purring
It has been 23 years since we had a kitten. We forgot what they sound like. Loki makes the cutest noises when he gets ready for sleep. It is hard to explain, but it must be the cutest thing this crazy world has to offer. You have to turn the volume up loud to hear it, but it's worth it!
Getting Ready for a Nap
After making all of those cute noises and cuddling a lot. He eventually lays down at my desk to help me do my coding!

Loki is the cutest kitten. What a lucky little boy he is for finding you and becoming part of your family. He's just precious.

Yea, I really thought I could get by without a little buddy. And I can, but I really didn't like it. I am also really impressed with the difference it made in my happiness. I really did not expect that.
Loki is adorable! And thank you for giving him a good home! Once you've become a cat household, there's really no going back!
Don't know whether he will keep his stripes; I was also clearly a tabby when I was a wee kitten, but now I'm solid black; I think it's the fine undercoat that has the stripes; when the full top coat grows out it tends to be a solid color. But Loki might be different.

I hear ya! @sift666 and I were like that after we had to say goodbye to our two cats who were in their 20's. But we were always out in the garden making friends with the neighbourhood cats, and we were the local drop in centre for them all during the day, since we work at home. So we realised we needed our own cat again.
