Another Bitcoin Fork - Yay or Nay?
A Bitcoin fork happens when a developer decides to duplicate the Bitcoin source code from GitHub and come up with their own version.
Litecoin is one of the first altcoin developed based on a bitcoin fork that continue to thrive in the market. And another recent successful fork was Bitcoin Cash. Both of these altcoins were successful because of the strong developer support backing them and also because they were able to solve the high transaction fee issue that Bitcoin is experiencing.
Coming up with a bitcoin fork is not that hard, but that is only 10% of the battle. You need the support from Bitcoin community to keep going. That is what happen to many previous forks attempted before this. They failed miserably as they lack the support from the community.
Some of the famous Bitcoin Fork that failed includes Bitcoin XT and Segwit2x. Both of these fork try to introduce increase of Bitcoin block size to the community and did not get the support they needed from miners.
Personally, I think that the cryptocurrency and blockchain community as a whole should focus on improving Bitcoin core instead of coming up with another fork every month.
What about you? Do you think we need another Bitcoin Fork?
