Il Duomo di Como : L'INTERNO
A few days ago I told you about the Como cathedral about how it was done externally, now it's time to see it inside.
The interior is a Latin cross with three naves, marked by two rows of pillars, the walls are decorated with paintings on canvas by numerous painters, among which the most famous are Bernardino Luini and Giovanni Licinio.
The central apse occupied largely by the raised presbytery of some steps, compared to the rest of the nave and after the liturgical reform is organized with new marble furnishings that most likely used reliefs from the ancient cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore.
At the center of the apse is the ancient Baroque high altar from Rome built around 1728.
In the Cathedral it must be remembered that some bishops of Como and also some lay people are buried, including Benedetto Giovio, older brother of the more famous Paolo and the doctor Giovanni Paolo Rezzonico.
