Sandra And Her Kits - Day 5
This is day 5 in the life of Sandra and her kids and I have done this short video to show you how they are progressing.
You will see that their body is no longer as naked as they were the day they were born. Their hands and feet are beginning to show some signs of tiny claws growing out they have the two front teeth coming out too and they are now quiet bigger than they were at birth.
They are feeding very well as can be seen from the size of their stomachs. If their stomachs are very full and big it means that they are eating fine but if their stomachs are flat and wrinkled it then means the mother is not feeding them or that particular kit didn’t get to eat when their mother came into the nest box.
This could happen if a kit wonders off from where the other kits are and is trapped there or finds it difficult to find its way back before the mother leaves the nest box. This is because they’re still blind and can’t see so rely on smell and touch to locate where they are going to. That is why cuddling and staying together not only helps them grow because of the warmth it provides it also makes it easier for them to feed when their mother enters the nest box.
They are still sleeping a lot as that is pretty much what they can do for now, but ones their eyes are open and they can come out of the next box, then they give their mom a hard time as they almost want to suck all the time. They also spend time sniffing around the cage, the food and water cans and anything that just tickles their interest. I hope to do another video before they’re 13 to 15 days as their eyes will be open then and the nest box would have been removed.
